The second round of SHSAT (Specialized High School Admission Test) will be administered on August 29th 2016. SHSAT is a test unique to New York City for students who desire to enroll into New York City's Specialized High Schools, such as Stuyvesant High School, Bronx Science, La Guardia (requires a mandatory audition), Brooklyn Tech. These high schools are renowned as New York City's best high schools. Each year, more than 200,000 students, who are residents of New York City, take SHSAT to attend the specialized high schools. The admission rate for each school is about 3%.
Typically administered for 8th grade students in December, the second round of SHSAT is administered every August for students who missed the opportunity to take the test in their 8th grade. The qualification to take the exam is given to students who resided outside of the New York City at the time of the test. The second round of SHSAT is known to be even more competitive than the first round, given the limited seats for the students. Furthermore, a 9th grade transfer exam is also administered in August for students who want to transfer into a Specialized High School upon completion of their 9th grade.
